A mash-up is any music created by directly sampling from multiple pre-existing cultural works to create new, original music; examples span from Biggie Smalls rapping over the Thomas the Tank Engine theme to a compilation of over 50 classical themes overlaid in a composition for piano. Through my talk, I will show both the universality and plasticity of music, even in the age of pristine studio production.
