Andreas D. Fotopoulos was born in Patra and is a Professor of Nuclear Medicine in
the Department of the Medicine of the University of Ioannina. He currently serves as
Vice Rector of the University of Ioannina (Academic Affairs & Human Resources),
President of Greek Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging and
Chairman of Nuclear Medicine Department of the University Hospital of Ioannina
(Greece).
His research is internationally recognized with 139 publications in international
journals and 17 awards. Over the last 12 years, his research focuses on the use of
classical Nuclear Medicine techniques in Neuro-Oncology, which creates a new field
of applications.
The European Commission, within the frames of Horizon 2020-SME- Instrument-
Phase 2, has positively evaluated the project "GLIOMARK" and approved funding of
€4.7 million for the next 4 years, which is the only project approved in the field of
Nuclear Medicine in Europe.
