A library is more than just a collection of books. It’s a collection of people and ideas, but sometimes those people and ideas create conflict. Luckily, the library is there to help.

John Spears has been Executive Director of the Pikes Peak Library District since early 2016. He has nearly 20 years of experience working in libraries & prior to coming to PPLD served as Director of libraries in Salt Lake City, UT, Naperville & Joliet, IL. John has worked in rural, suburban, & urban libraries. He is passionate about the difference that public libraries can make in the lives of both individuals & communities. He believes that libraries act as a catalyst in the artistic, cultural, economic, & civic development of their communities & the strength of a library resides in its staff & the connections they form with those they serve. John is the President of the Library Leadership & Management Association, a contributing editor to Public Libraries & co-author of "Forward Thinking," a column that explores trends in public librarianship & serves on the Board of the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association & the Governing Board of the Pikes Peak Continuum of Care.
