Indian society has been witnessing a change. This change offers a mix of hope and despair. Life in rural setting is a lackadaisical. Understanding rural community and evolving an appropriate policy response could turn the despair into hope. India needs a refreshingly new approach to understand the society in distress within. A small experiment in Thailand village and its outcome is an art of hope. A dedicated team of statisticians were able to collect and document monthly household budgetary data that was able to shed light on the life of rural household and rural community. These insight could help understand the dynamics behind the ailments in agricultural profession. The traditional wisdom of rural communities towards various issues afflicting their life would help train the public policy to solve the problem.

Dr.Pushparaj Soundararajan teaches econometrics at Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. He believes that a sensible use of econometrics is indispensable for sensible public policy. Indian society has been witnessing a change. This change is a thorough blend of both hope and despair. Life in rural setting is a lackadaisic.
