Male, stale and in a shed | Chris Lee | TEDxChelmsford

For decades Chris Lee thought age was just a number, then three events changed all that. Getting a new garden shed is the latest leg on a journey that, via deep thought on what it means to be a ‘real man’, has taken him to dark places and a discovery that has helped make sense of the past 20 years

During 40 years in the not-for-private-profit sector ‘pursuing a cause rather than a career’, the line between paid and unpaid work has become increasingly blurred for Chris Lee. After 15 years in international book publishing, his personal and professional life has developed through a series of time-limited projects – stepping stones to, his wife hopes, ‘a proper job’. When not advising charities and social enterprises on working well, he borrows good ideas from other people to share in his home county – Hertfordshire – where he organised the first Repair Cafés and Cash Mobs. Chris lives in no man’s land – the Hertfordshire / Cambridgeshire border – where he can be found running, singing, freecycling, blogging and telling bad jokes
