How do we honor our heritage without breaking ourselves into halves: Half-Emirati, Half-Egyptian? What do you do when you don't understand the references amongst your own family members? Amal Al Gergawi describes how she came to be ok with saying "I don't know, but I want to learn" and encourages us all to be open to embrace the diversity of our heritage.
As an Emirati, Amal is proud of the traditions and culture in which she lives. Yet, sometimes she cannot help feeling a little distant as she thinks about her Egyptian roots through her mother. In her talk, Amal shares her thoughts on her transnationalism and encourages us to embrace the diversity of our heritage.
