How the internal state of mind pushes an individual to limits which were never expected. Dentist, Memnia Theodorou travelled from London to Australia across the seas in a sailing race which changed the way she viewed the world.
Memnia was born in Larnaca, Cyprus. She pursued Dentistry at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece and thereafter built her dental career in the UK. In need of a break from her career and an adventure, she signed up for an international sailing event, ‘Clipper Round the World Yacht Race’.The ultimate purpose of the race is for the 12 identical boats, manned by amateur sailors & led by professional skippers, to complete a circumnavigation of the earth, going through some of the most treacherous weather systems & isolated areas of the planet in 11 months. While originally signed up for the first leg of the race, crossing the Atlantic, travelling from London to Rio de Janeiro, during the crossing, she fell in love with the sport and the sea, so she kept signing up for more legs. She continued sailing to Cape Town, Albany, Sydney, Hobart, till she reached Airlie Beach. She has covered over 18.000nM, becoming the first Cypriot woman to have sailed from the UK to Australia.
