Crystal Bevers is a literature professor at Heritage University, a four-year institution of higher education located on the Yakama Nation. Crystal’s teaching brings her in contact often with students who frequently are the first college bound members of their families. In this invigorating and brave talk, she makes her enthusiasm clear for greater awareness and support for the liberal arts and the role they play in empowerment of rural communities.
Crystal Bevers is an assistant professor at Heritage University, where she teaches literature, composition, and the First Year Seminar. While passionate about the transformative power of the humanities, she has a special interest in addressing the unique needs of first-generation college students and advocates for the decolonization of higher education. Crystal has an MFA in Writing from Pacific University and a BA in English from Washington State University, with a concentration in social and environmental justice. Her creative work has been published in multiple literary journals and anthologies.
